Leigh Ann Brink
With an interest in science and health, Leigh Ann graduated in 1981 with an Associate of Science Degree from MSU and was a practicing RN until 2003. She is married with one daughter.
She began keeping bees in 2014. She established Brink’s Whirlwind Apiary, specializing in natural & healthy products from the hive. She is the current President of Davy Crockett Beekeepers Association, a member of Tennessee Beekeepers Association, as well as being a TenneBEES Expo planner.

Mike Studer
Advanced session from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM
For the advanced keeper, Mike Studer’s session is not to be missed. Delving into the complexities of hive health, Mike will conduct a “Hive Autopsy” to reveal why bee colonies sometimes fail.
Michael Studer has been the Tennessee State Apiarist for the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, Consumer and Industry Services Division since December of 2007. He is responsible for regulating and protecting the honeybee industry in the state of Tennessee. He was previously employed by the University of Tennessee, Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology as a research specialist for 11 years where he was responsible for researching and diagnosing honey bee pests and diseases for the University of Tennessee Bee Lab.

Cathy Selbert
Intermediate session from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM
Cathy Selbert is a proud UT graduate with a B.S. in Science in Agriculture Education and Extension. With 12 years of experience as an Agriculture Education teacher, she led greenhouse and landscaping classes, fostering a passion for sustainable agriculture. Since 2020, Cathy has served as a Plant and Apiary Inspector with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. In this role, she regulates the movement of plants and plant materials—ensuring that greenhouse and nursery stock are free from pests and diseases, issuing certificates for shipping plant material internationally, and conducting public outreach and invasive pest surveys in upper east TN. Additionally, she is responsible for inspecting apiaries related to the movement or sale of bees in the region.
Cathy will delve into the crucial role of bees as pollinators, highlighting key crops and forest plants that benefit from their services. Join her session to discover how these tiny workers contribute significantly to our ecosystems.
